Aging beer and food pairings
Although this isn’t exactly a wine topic per se, I was intrigued by a discussion this morning on San Francisco’s KFOG radio station about aging beers and storing in them in oak barrels. Now, I had a feeling this blog would branch off into other beverages at some point as I have become more interested in beers lately. Living on Vancouver Island for whatever reason has given me the opportunity to try many local varieties and as such, I’ve neglected my old regulars like Heineken or Guiness. Although I was raised in Canada, my beer drinking actually started in Holland the summer I was 18. To say I’m a bit of a beer snob would be an understatement at best. I ignore the aisle of Molson or Labatt’s. The thought of tasting those beers doesn’t leave much to be desired. Imagine how I feel about American beers.
So when a discussion about aging beer and food pairings came on the radio this morning, it totally served as a reminder to me to not discount this other area that I’m interested in. I’m already looking forward to pairing a beer the next time I have an order of fish and chips.
Meanwhile, my wife and I are about to get ready for a Winter Elegance Party that we’re hosting for 6 of our friends, featuring various cabarnets. I’ll be sure to report how it all turned out along with the wines featured.
